Good to Know & Caveats

• Every visitor passes an airport-style security check at the Imperial Gate. No ticket, tour or pass skips it — arriving near opening time is the only thing that shortens it.
• Hagia Sophia enforces a dress code: women must cover their heads, and everyone must cover shoulders and knees.
• Political, ideological or religious signs, symbols, banners and flags are not permitted inside Hagia Sophia.
• If the Basilica Cistern is closed on your date, the operator substitutes another site — check your voucher.
• Topkapı is closed on Tuesdays.
